DCC Meets Critical Communication Needs of New York’s Financial Corporations in Wake of Blackouts

- High-Speed Notification Technology Alerts Over 100,000 in Less than 24 Hours-

FRANKLIN, TENNESSEE – High-speed notification technology, developed by DCC (Dialogic Communications Corporation), allowed leading financial corporations in New York City, as well as small to mid-size municipalities in neighboring states to maintain communication with key audiences during the largest blackout in the country’s history.

DCC enabled private and public organizations to remotely activate notification software that contacted their employees, customers and residents immediately following the blackout of August 14, 2003. In less than 24 hours, over 100,000 automated notifications were made through DCC’s state-of-the-art hosting center, located in the company’s headquarters in Tennessee. Event-specific information and instruction was delivered through various communication devices, including, phone, fax, pager and e-mail.

The technology successfully conveyed instructions for top management on the implementation of contingency plans and hot site activations, along with important return-to-work instructions for employees, network recovery procedures and public safety announcements such as boil water decrees. In an August 15th interview with the Associated Press, DCC CEO Gene Kirby specified that a large percentage of the calls sent updates to financial professionals about such details as the status of their auxiliary power supplies and when important conference calls were beginning.

“Fast and accurate communication is essential in times like these,” said Kirby. “Whatever the message, the key in any critical situation is the immediate delivery of accurate information, so that the appropriate action and precautionary measures can be taken.”

Since 9/11, companies and municipalities of every size have a heightened awareness of the need for rapid response capabilities in the event of a crisis. The use of DCC’s high-speed notification technology during the August 2003 blackout reinforces the effectiveness of immediate, accurate communication within both the public and private sector during emergency conditions.
