(Dialogic Communications Corporation), the nation's leading provider of emergency notification technology, has introduced its latest innovation for the communications technology sector, GeoCast on the Web – an Internet-based GIS (geographic information system) solution that enables users to communicate with virtually thousands of individuals, based on location, during a crisis or mission-critical situation.
DCC's GeoCast on the Web utilizes ESRI's (Environmental Systems Research Institute) ArcIMS technology, bringing all the functionality of its proven predecessor, GeoCast, to the Internet. Providing unprecedented flexibility, GeoCast on the Web can be accessed using any web browser, allowing users, regardless of their location, to view specific digital, street-level maps and then geographically select targeted areas requiring notification. The technology is ideal for large-scale emergency communications related to inclement weather, evacuations, missing persons and terrorist threats, as well as for routine situations such as public announcements, town meetings, etc.
Once logged into the GeoCast website, users can select one or more specific locations of any size or shape, from individual streets to entire communities-at-risk, easily launching notifications or saving the defined call-out zones for future use. “Crisis knows no boundaries and so our ability to respond to crisis too should have no limitations,” said Gene Kirby, president and chairman of DCC. “In an emergency, organizations must make smart, quick decisions based on the situation at hand. With GeoCast on the Web, users can pan, zoom and view detailed maps of any desired region where geographic data is available. They can also display all map layers at one time and define each layer, their entities, scale values and attributes for complete user customization. Moreover, GeoCast on the Web provides the most flexible directional calling capability available (e.g., north to south, east to west, nearest to farthest, etc.), and can process thousands of names and phone numbers per minute, initiating first warnings immediately following incident identification.
