DCC’s Notification Technology Helps Lee County in Charley Response Effort

- Emergency Management Office Creates Communications Network with Public Safety Organizations and Community -

Fort Myers, Florida – As Hurricane Charley approached the Florida coastline, Lee County Emergency Management successfully utilized automated emergency notification technology to help prepare the county for the potential emergency ahead.

Lee County Emergency Management used the system to rapidly send critical messages about the hurricane to specific audiences throughout the county. By sharing this vital information, Lee County was able to create a powerful communications network, keeping these individuals alert of the situation and potentially saving lives.

The system, purchased in November 2001, enables Lee County Emergency Management to send voice messages simultaneously to various audiences -- which could potentially include local residents, first responders, other government agencies, etc. -- in a matter of minutes. Coupled with an advanced GIS (Geographical Interface System) mapping interface, the technology can also alert residents based on their geographical location.

Lee County’s automated emergency notification system was developed and installed by DCC (Dialogic Communications Corporation), the global leader in critical communications technology. The same system is used by hundreds of other public safety operations across the country, and is proven to provide rapid, accurate communication with first responders and communities-at-risk in times of crisis.

“In situations like Hurricane Charley, getting the right information at the right time can save lives,” said Gene Kirby, president of DCC. “Through their use of emergency notification technology, Lee County Emergency Management was able to coordinate their emergency response effort with key groups in their area. By communicating quickly, they were better prepared to handle the imminent crisis.”

DCC’s critical communications technology was utilized by numerous public safety and local government organizations throughout Florida before, during and after Hurricane Charley, ultimately aiding in public safety initiatives statewide.
