Polk County Uses DCC’s Technology to Prepare for Potential Emergency with Hurricane Charley

- County Creates Communications Network with Public Safety Organizations and Community -

Tampa, Florida – As Hurricane Charley approached the Florida coastline, Polk County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with Polk County Board of County Commissioners Emergency Management Division successfully utilized automated emergency notification technology to help prepare the county for the potential emergency ahead.

The office used an automated emergency notification system, known as The Communicator!, to rapidly send critical information to key groups, including local residents. By sharing this vital information, Polk County was able to create a powerful communications network within the region, keeping these individuals alert of the situation and potentially saving lives.

The Communicator! is an emergency notification software application developed by DCC (Dialogic Communications Corporation), the global leader in critical communications technology. Voice messages automatically delivered by the technology provided important information to residents throughout the area prior to the hurricane coming on shore. Used by hundreds of public safety operations across the country, such as Polk County, the technology is proven to provide rapid, accurate communication with first responders and communities-at-risk in times of crisis.

“Fast and accurate communication in severe weather situations like Charley can save lives,” said Gene Kirby, president of DCC. “The Communicator! enabled Polk County to coordinate their emergency response effort with other public safety groups in the area. Ultimately, the county’s ability to communicate quickly made the response and recovery easier to manage.”

DCC’s critical communications technology was utilized by numerous public safety and local government organizations throughout Florida before, during and after Hurricane Charley, ultimately aiding in public safety initiatives statewide.
