Stanly County to Use New Web-Based Notification System to Alert Community, First Responders
Albemarle, NC – Stanly County Emergency Management has selected DCC (Dialogic Communications Corporation) as its provider of an emergency notification system. The software, scheduled for installation later this year, will be used to automatically send alerts to local residents and first responders should situations threaten public safety.
Stanly County has purchased DCC’s very latest web-based notification solution, Communicator! NXT, along with its powerful mapping component, GeoCast Web. Officials plan to use the technology to provide phone alerts to homes, businesses, schools, etc. throughout the county, complete with event details or potentially life-saving instruction. Communicator! NXT will also send voice and text messages to first responders, county officials and other public safety operations across the area, advising them of situations and gathering necessary feedback.
“We are dedicated to protecting our community, and DCC’s technology allows us to do just that,” said Aaron Deese, Director of Stanly County Emergency Management. “With this new web-based notification software, we can communicate with anyone in the county, from any location, at any time. This is extremely important since emergencies can take any shape and size, and occur when least expected.”
Communicator! NXT is a web-based solution, meaning that officials will be able to launch notifications from any computer, safety and securely through the Internet. Its mapping counterpart, GeoCast Web, will provide officials the ability to view digital, street-level maps of the county, and then identify specific areas for emergency communication. This could include a particular street, city block or an entire business district or community.
While the emergency management office will primarily use its own phone lines for communications, DCC also offers local officials the ability to route calls through the company’s state-of-the-art hosting center just outside Nashville. By gaining access to this expansive fiber optic network hundreds of miles away, Stanly County will be assured a back-up means for notification round-the-clock.
“Across America, there is an immediate need for improved communications in times of crisis,” said Gene Kirby, DCC’s President. “It is incredible to see progressive public safety organizations, like Stanly County Emergency Management, use software to strengthen their first response capabilities and community relationships. By implementing this technology, people can get the information they need and the organization can better focus on the response versus the call-out effort."
Hundreds of public safety operations nationwide are using DCC’s critical notification technology to improve communications with first responders and local residents. Its on- and off-site (hosted) solutions are being used time and again, to help locate missing persons, evacuate communities-at-risk and assemble crisis action teams. DCC’s technology was used extensively during the terrorist attacks of 9/11, as well as the Northeastern blackout of 2003 and, most recently, the 2004 Atlantic hurricane season.
